Show Your Body Your Thankful

This year has been hard, here at Body Motion Physical Therapy we are huge advocates for gratitude which we have had to refocus on as we all endured so many changes.
We are especially grateful for our health, we are grateful for our community and the work we get to do everyday! We are in awe of the women in our community and the abundance of moms who have decided to put their health first. So often we see women who have pushed their bodies past pain and discomfort, ignored symptoms and continued on as though everything is fine.
But things aren't fine. Just because symptoms like uncomfortable intercourse, leaking when you sneeze or jump, low back pain etc. are common does not mean they are NORMAL! The healthcare system in the United States focuses on fixing an issue once it unbearable, when surgery is the only option. But those little twinges you get, the discomfort, the worry are signals to take action. That something is going on, Pelvic Expert Physical Therapist's are trained to create a healing path specifically made for you. We can all go on Pinterest and find a workout plan. But those plans don't take into consideration your health history; the torn ACL from your soccer playing days, the car accident you go in 3 years ago and the c-section you had a year ago. Those events matter! Each person has a different need, we carry weight in different places, have different arches in our feet and have had different injuries that we need to modify for.

Here are common symptoms that often go unaddressed that can actually be signs of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction:
  • leaking pee or feces when you don't want to
  • going to the bathroom frequently
  • discomfort during sex
  • pressure or pain in the pelvic area
  • low back pain
  • separated ab muscles, diastasis recti
  • hip pain
  • tight glute muscles
  • sciatic nerve pain
  • knee pain
  • pain at the sight of your c-section
  • constipation
  • painful periods
  • burning during urination
  • a heavy feeling in the pelvic
  • a bulging feeling in your rectum

Many people have the idea "if it ain't broke don't fix it" but that's not okay when it comes to your body! Addressing these symptoms as soon as they arise will help you avoid surgeries in the future. We all know someone how has had a hip or knee surgery. We've all heard of people in retirement homes needs walkers, wheel chairs and adult diapers. That's what's at the end of the road if you follow this misguided information that the only reason to address something is when you've reached the breaking point. We Help Women Through Preconception, Pregnancy And Beyond So They Can Live Active, Confident, Healthy Lives Without The Need For Surgeries And Medications. Our mission is to help you age gracefully with confidence in your body that you can live the life you dream of! Whether that's running marathons and mountain climbing, or being able to do yoga or running after your kids now and your grandkids one day. Self care isn't just face masks and bubble baths, it's doing the work that's going to set you up for your future.

Dr. Allison Feldt, PT, DPT owner of Body Motion Physical Therapy and Author of the Best Selling Book "Restore Your Body After Kids; The Secret To Avoid Peeing Your Pants And Achy Joints As You Age" started her practice after working in an outpatient facility where many of the clients were suffering. Their quality of life had diminished and they had lost their independence. This broke her heart so much of their pain could have been avoided if they were supported postpartum and after major injuries, before things got to the point of no return. Many people think bad joints and back pain are hereditary but more often than not it's caused by a lack or core strength. Restoring your core and optimizing it's function will allow it to absorb the force exerted throughout your day with each step over time this force affects your joints and back leading to severe pain.
